As a newcomer in Bollywood, Shakti Kapoor initially took on several minor roles while searching for a breakthrough as a leading actor. His Bollywood journey began in 1977 with Khel Khilari Ka, starring Dharmendra and Hema Malini. Kapoor’s career gained momentum in 1980–81 with notable villainous roles in Qurbani and Rocky, establishing him as a recognizable actor in the industry. In 1983, he portrayed memorable antagonists in Himmatwala and Subhash Ghai’s Hero.

By the 1990s, Kapoor expanded into comedic roles, excelling in characters like Nandu in Raja Babu, for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. Some of his iconic comedic performances include roles as Inspector Bhinde in Insaaf, Prasad in Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Crime Master Gogo in Andaz Apna Apna, Batuknath in ChaalBaaz, and Goonga in Bol Radha Bol. His catchphrases, such as “Aaaooo Lolita” from Tohfa and “Nandu sabka bandhu” from Raja Babu, became widely popular and favorites for mimicry artists.

Since 2000, Kapoor has become a staple in Priyadarshan’s films, appearing in comedies like Hungama, Hulchul, Chup Chup Ke, Malamaal Weekly, and the Malayalam remake Bhagam Bhag. He has also acted in regional films, including Bengali, Odia, and Assamese cinema. In 2011, he appeared as a contestant on the reality TV show Bigg Boss 5. Kapoor starred in the musical comedy Aasman Se Gire Khajoor Pe Atke alongside his sister-in-law Padmini Kolhapure and serves as the brand ambassador for Servokon.
