Sunny Deol, born Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1957, is an Indian actor, director, producer, and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Punjab. Known for his action-packed roles, he is one of the top-grossing actors in Indian cinema, with over 90 Hindi films in a career spanning four decades. He has won two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards.
The elder son of veteran actor Dharmendra, Sunny debuted in the hit romantic drama Betaab (1983). He gained fame with action films like Arjun (1985), Paap Ki Duniya (1988), and Tridev (1989). His role in Ghayal (1990), where he played a boxer, won him a Filmfare Award and a National Film Award. He also won awards for his powerful performance as a lawyer in Damini (1993). Other notable films include Darr (1993), Jeet (1996), Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), and Arjun Pandit (1999).
Sunny achieved massive success with Border (1997) and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), the latter becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of its time. He later starred with his father and brother in movies like Apne (2007) and Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011). After a career slump, he made a major comeback with Gadar 2 (2023), his highest-grossing film to date and one of the top Hindi blockbusters.
